August Youth Night Recap

During our August 11th youth night, we tackled the idea of making wise choices. The youth learned about the parable of the prodigal son found in Luke 15:11-32, looking at the choices he made, his brother made, and his father made. They were taught to be humble, to be patient, to forgive, to confess your sins, and to rejoice with others instead of being “salty.” 7th grade Mekhi won the prize for successfully recapping the story of the prodigal son from memory!

Since we had an all boys group with one girl for the evening, we broke into middle school vs. high school for small group discussions, and the discussions were lively! We also had a special time of honoring our rising 6th graders, with each of the older youth giving their best piece of advice for being successful in middle school. Youth also participated in the Bridge’s City Love Community Takeover campaign by writing notes of encouragement to elementary school students to be added to backpacks collected in the backpack drive.

The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
— Luke 15:21-24

Lastly, we announced our 31 Days of Proverbs challenge that starts on Monday, August 14th. Each youth was given a daily study guide for writing down their favorite verse from each chapter of Proverbs. They also received small journals for writing down additional thoughts and choices there were making as a result of reading a chapter of Proverbs. Our goal is to develop in our youth a daily habit of Bible reading. We were super excited that 5 of our youth asked to have a Bible to take home with them to read.

If you haven’t been to one of our youth nights, we encourage you to join us as we train up and invest in the next generation of people who will love God, love others and make a difference. We hope to see you in September for our next youth night!
